Welcome to 2017. Being a goal-oriented person, this is one of my favorite times of year. I, for one, will be starting things off by identifying my behavioral zone of proximal development. It is the place that challenges me to be my best self just beyond my level of comfort. I know from experience if my New Years resolution is too difficult, Ill abandon it as soon as the novelty wears off. So this year, Ill look for small purposeful ways to actualize this goal.
I often assess behavior in three general domains: social, emotional and ethical. Perhaps, this is a good starting place for me. How are my interactions with others? How do I handle my own emotional states? Do I do the right things for the right reasons? Though these are big questions, Ill make things concrete and manageable by simply focusing on each choice I make.
My wish is that you are able to uncover your behavioral best self, and my recommendation is that you focus on the process, rather than the end result. We all have continuous opportunities to move forward on our goal with each choice we make. So make each choice a good one. Happy New Year.
