“What do you want to be when grow up?” Apparently, my answer was always the same: “I want to be a dad.” This is what my mom told me I said when I was young, and it doesn’t shock me in any way. For as long as I can remember, I wanted a large family with zillions of children.
When I think of the huge impact fathers make I get a bit overwhelmed. I have always taken this job very seriously. It is an exciting, but intimidating task. Many people, in many ways, play the part of the father figure. For this reason, I choose to refer to today as Fathers’ Day. I believe this to be a collective effort, thus the location of the apostrophe.
Marc calls me his father; Max refers to me as his dad; Matthieu has always said daddy; and I’m not sure I’ve ever heard Micah directly refer to me as his relative in any way. Whatever the title, I’ll take it. I feel blessed to get to play a significant role in shaping my boys development. Happy Fathers’ Day.
