Perspective and attitude carry a great deal of weight when it comes to behavior. I need to keep this in mind as I move into the month of December. Of course, my tendency is to speed up. I work to fit it all in and get it all done. Black Friday hits and it feels as though we all jump on a giant-sized hamster wheel racing toward the years end. It is no wonder December behaviors can run in extremes. We do it to ourselves.
In contrast, at least for me, it has been a great Thanksgiving week. The break didnt feel frenzied or hurried. It was nice to relax and enjoy time with my family and friends. I did some work during the week, but not too much. I was able to keep a really good balance. There has to be a lesson here.
I celebrate Christmas, so rather than counting down the next 15 school days until the winter break, Im going to treat the entire month of December as the holiday itself. Ill celebrate by day with colleagues, and family in the evenings and on weekends. My goal is to enjoy the day-to-day journey rather than viewing work as something I have to get through in order to get to the next break. Im hoping this small shift in perspective will slow me down a bit, and help keep my Grinch-like tendencies at bay. I hope you have had, and will continue to have a blessed and happy holiday season.
